What is Rick Harrison’s net worth?

With a net worth of $9 million, Rick Harrison is an American entrepreneur and reality television personality. He is part of the Harrison family, known for owning the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their fame surged due to the reality TV series “Pawn Stars,” which showcases the events and quirks occurring at the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop.

Early Life

Born on March 22, 1965, in Lexington, North Carolina, Richard Kevin Harrison is the son of Richard Benjamin Harrison Jr. and Joanne Harrison. As their third child, Richard had an older sister named Sherry, who passed away at the age of six, an older brother Joseph, and a younger brother, Chris. His father served in the U.S. Navy. The family relocated to San Diego when Harrison was two years old following his father’s transfer. Harrison began experiencing epileptic seizures at the age of eight, which often led him to be bedridden, instilling in him a lasting passion for reading. Although he attended Taft Middle School in San Diego, he dropped out in his sophomore year to focus on a “$2,000-a-week business of selling fake Gucci bags.” In April 1981, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.

Career

Upon settling in Las Vegas, Harrison’s father opened a secondhand store in 1981. The original Gold & Silver Coin Shop was a small 300-square-foot location on Las Vegas Boulevard. During the day, Harrison worked in his father’s store, while at night, he repossessed cars. In 1986, the store expanded to a larger downtown location. However, in 1988, they lost the lease for that space and relocated to a new commercial building on Las Vegas Boulevard. Harrison and his father had long discussed the possibility of transitioning the coin shop into a pawn shop, viewing it as a natural progression for their business. This transformation proved challenging due to a Las Vegas law from 1955 that limited the issuance of new pawn shop licenses based on city population. By 1988, Las Vegas had over 640,000 residents in the metro area. Harrison contacted the city’s statistician weekly, eager to secure one of the scarce pawn licenses once the population reached the next milestone. By 1989, the licensing opportunity arose, and the Harrisons obtained their pawn license, opening the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop near the Las Vegas Strip that same year. They co-owned the shop until his father’s passing in 2018.

By 2005, Harrison and his father were issuing around $3 million in loans annually, earning them approximately $700,000 in interest revenue. By 2006, the pawnshop had gained notoriety for its unique sports memorabilia and attracted gamblers looking to pawn items for gas money to return home.

After his pawnshop was featured in a 2001 PBS documentary and on the comedy show Insomniac with Dave Attell in 2003, Harrison spent four years convincing networks to create a television show centered around his business. The concept circulated through HBO and YouTube before the History Channel took interest, ultimately developing it into the popular series Pawn Stars, now recognized as the highest-rated show on the network. Debuting in July 2009, as of June 2023, Pawn Stars has completed 21 seasons and 633 episodes. It remains the top-rated program on The History Channel, to the point where the series is routinely renewed in batches of 80 episodes, a rare occurrence in television.

For any television show, especially a reality series, this is quite significant.

Currently, Corey Harrison, Rick’s son, works alongside his childhood best friend, Austin “Chumlee” Russell, in the store and features on the show. On the show, Rick is known by the nickname “The Spotter,” which he earned due to his ability to identify undervalued items.

Personal Life

At the age of 17, Harrison’s girlfriend Kim became pregnant. Despite experiencing a miscarriage, the pair decided to tie the knot. Corey, their first child, was born on April 27, 1983, followed by their second child, Adam, two years later. Soon after Adam’s arrival, Harrison and Kim parted ways.

Nine months later, on a blind double date, Harrison met Tracy, who would become his second wife. After a six-month courtship, they cohabitated, and after another eight months, they married, taking on the responsibility of raising Corey and Adam. Eventually, they divorced.

In 2012, having been divorced twice, Harrison announced his engagement to Deanna Burditt, who also had two previous marriages. They wed on July 21, 2013, in Laguna Beach, California, but their marriage ended in September 2020. In 2021, he tied the knot with Amanda Palmer.

Rick Harrison has shown a keen interest in politics, considering a gubernatorial run in Nevada for 2022 and contemplating a U.S. Senate campaign in 2024.

Lawsuit

Following the passing of Richard Harrison, otherwise known as “The Old Man,” in 2018, Rick’s mother, Joanne, initiated a lawsuit regarding a dispute over family assets and the ownership of their Las Vegas pawn shop. The lawsuit claims that during her hospitalization in 2000/2001, Rick had her sign away her 51% stake in the business. According to the suit, upon Richard’s death in 2018, Joanne inherited his 49% share of the shop, but Rick allegedly did not provide her with comprehensive financial documents. Joanne also asserts she has been unable to obtain a proper accounting of over $500,000 in cash and silver that she believes her husband amassed before his demise. Joanne Harrison seeks unspecified damages, an asset accounting, and a judicial order preventing Rick Harrison from utilizing her funds, as well as a “constructive trust” over property belonging to her.

Real Estate

In 2019, Harrison offered his Red Rock Country Clubhouse in Summerlin, Las Vegas, for sale at $3.99 million. Built in 2001, the 8,845-square-foot residence was purchased by him in 2016, following approximately $600,000 in renovations. The formal sitting room features acid-washed granite flooring that is cut into planks and laid like hardwood, with a cost of $45,000. This home includes two bedrooms on each level, as well as a gym that can serve as a bedroom, alongside seven bathrooms, a home theater with seating for twelve, and a 150-inch screen with curtains. A wine cellar capable of holding over 1,000 bottles is also part of the property. An elevator and a central sound system enable music playback in any room from a connected phone.

The house’s front faces the Spring Mountains of Red Rock Canyon, while the backyard offers views of the Strip and overlooks the Arroyo Golf Club. The upstairs game room includes a balcony, while the backyard features a lagoon-style pool, an elevated spa, and a gate leading to the golf course. There is a 10-foot waterfall and a lazy river flowing into the pool, as well as an outdoor kitchen. Harrison chose this neighborhood because it was where their children attended high school, but now that the children are grown, the space is no longer necessary.
